POETRY – HAMLET
WEDNESDAYS, OCT. 29, NOVEMBER 5, 12, 19 DECEMBER 3 @ 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
SHERBORN LIBRARY TRUSTEES’ ROOM/COST: $50
The class will read “Hamlet” in its entirety, exploring how the play’s entangled themes emerge out of Shakespeare’s poetry and stagecraft. The richness and deep structure of Shakespeare’s language illuminate psychological and socio-political currents as timely today as they were in 1601. We will focus on the alchemy of the poetry itself and how it midwives an inexhaustible well of insight and meaning. It is probably a good idea to start reading the play beforehand using a copy with a glossary at the bottom of each page.
